Introducing Mobile Safety

Enables users to control proactively the hazards and dangers involved in the day to day risk management of industrial tasks, both on and off-site

Thursday, 25 January 2007

Mobile Safety, which is a unique Windows Mobile and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) application for use by companies operating across a number of industries where health and safety is a key issue, enables users to control proactively the hazards and dangers involved in the day to day risk management of industrial tasks, both on and off-site.

Mobile Safety is a "hosted" Internet service run from a PC or Apple Mac, which works in conjunction with a hand-held PDA that has a mobile phone built into it. The person in charge of health and safety sets up the appropriate health and safety questionnaires - such as working at height checks and electrical equipment safety checks - so that the user can carry out safety briefings using the PDA before any work begins on potentially hazardous tasks.

As the records are updated on site using the PDA it automatically synchronises the data with the PC/Mac over the airwaves using simple mobile phone technology. This is done at regular intervals for lesser important activities or it can set to continuously update throughout the working day for high risk activities.

Mobile Safety can be used to perform a number of functions, including:
- Full Risk Assessments
- Incidents and Accident reports
- Safety briefings
- Inspections and Audits
- Site open and close checks
- Review and update hazard levels by task
- Set time tabled review intervals for inspections
- Assessing machinery safety
- Onsite staff inductions.

Any problems can be reported immediately using the PDA/phone functions. This includes any non-compliance issues that may arise from incorrect reporting of accidents, incidents or hazards including any photographic report or evidence taken at the time of the event using the PDA's built-in camera. The user can even make voice recordings and send them via email.

The PDA allows full integration with Microsoft Office applications allowing the user to carry a "virtual office" with them using standard applications such as the phone, web and email functions, which the PDA hardware offers as standard.

The user can work more efficiently using Internet and mobile phone technology; increasing safety, productivity and profitability as forms are completed at the point of the risk assessment and report. These are then sent automatically and instantly from the PDA and circulated via email.

Mobile Safety will help to drive down the potential accident and incident rate, whilst improving on-site safety as a whole, aiding enforcement of the guidelines outlined in the HSE's 'Six Pack' Approved Codes of Practice for working safety both on and off company premises.
