RedSky IT's innovative approach to mobile technology

Monday, 13 October 2008

RedSky IT are pleased to announce the delivery of the mobile module for Summit Service Management. The software uses a unique approach where only a small general purpose client has to be installed on the handheld device. Once installed, the system allows the configuration of the device to be dynamically delivered from the central Summit server.

This enables applications as varied as stock issues, stock checks, employee expense capture, as well as a full featured engineers job ticket process, including capture of parts used and customers signature and photographs, to be deployed remotely to the device.

The software also uses a novel approach to communicating with the central server, most mobile solutions use propriety protocols and communications requiring dedicated servers, RedSky IT's approach enables the device to either operate with direct communication over the internet to the server, or interestingly, it can also operate just using normal email services. This opens up opportunities to deploy the solution to the subcontractors of the company using the Summit system, as all they need to have in place is the actual handhelds (which can be just standard windows mobile PDAs) and an email address for the job tickets to be issued to. The full features of the system are available even in this simplified setup, enabling roll out to large disparate workforces with very little overhead.

Commenting on the solution RedSky IT's Managing Director Mike Aspinwall said: " We believe this innovative approach to delivering a mobile solution, at last allows smaller organisations to break free of the costly complexity of previous generation software. The efficiencies of mobile data capture are no longer available only to those organisations with large workforces who can justify the infrastructure outlay."

The system has already been sold to three customers who are in the early stages of implementation. One of them is deploying the solution to manage material issues to contracts and stock checks, and the other two are using it to provide job tickets out to their mobile workforce.

RedSky IT has over 30 years experience supplying the construction industry supply chain with over 2000 customers throughout the UK.…
