Half of manufacturing spam email is for little blue pills

Wednesday, 19 November 2008

More than half of all the spam email received by businesses in manufacturing is for Viagra and other pharamceuticals

Analysts at specialist manufacturing computer support company Ulysses IT have pored through a new security intelligence report issued by software giant Microsoft.

They found that 30.6 per cent of spam received in the first half of 2008 was for the little blue pills, and a further 20.9 per cent for other drugs. Other popular subjects for spam include dating, gambling, and scams aimed at getting bank account details.

Director Paula Backen said a good business email system should filter out the majority of this spam.
“Anyone who is getting more than one or two spam emails a week slipping through should improve their spam filter,” she said.

“While spammers are often finding new ways to get through, it’s actually pretty easy to catch the majority of spam these days and get rid of it so it doesn’t waste any time in the workplace.”

Paula added: “While no spam filter is 100 per cent accurate, the best will allow real emails through and stop the spam. No-one wants their employees to have to waste time deleting emails just so they can get on with their work.”
