Nemetschek Scia launches the new Scia Steel 2009 release with 3D+

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Since 1974, Nemetschek Scia has provided the steel construction industry with innovative and enabling software tools. Today, established as the industry’s reference IT-partner, Scia has 130 employees and an extensive partner network, marketing, developing and supporting its software solutions world-wide. Scia’s mission is to provide its customers with a clear competitive advantage in the execution of their projects.

Scia Steel software supports the production process in an innovative way to maximise efficiency, accuracy and cost reduction. Release 2009 signifies a major  innovative advance in the support of the steel construction company’s production process: Scia Steel software becomes 3D+.

This innovation fits perfectly within the ‘BIM’ approach (Building Information Modelling); it puts complete 3D information at the disposal of the work preparation. When utilised with the existing functionality, this offers 4D (element and project data) and even 5D project information (time and planning).

A selection of the features is: Integration with CAD and CAE (via BIM and the exchange standard IFC), Document management, Project management and logistics, Production management, Planning (master-schedule and detail-schedule), Calculation of proposals, Project-budget-control
CAM – work preparation and integration with machines, MRP – purchasing and stock control, integration with financial software.

Users have already welcomed this advance in the software. At the presentation of the actual and future Scia Steel product plan,  Mr. Jan Teuwen of Steelconstructor ‘Staalbouw Willems nv’ said: ”We are pleasantly surprised by these developments and we look eagerly forward to the moment that we can use this software, it definitely offers a lot of extra functions.”
