Evolution Mobile increases engineer productivity

Integrity Software, providers of the construction accounting software package, Evolution, has recently launched its integrated PDA and work management software, Evolution Mobile. This new tool provides contractors with a way of increasing the capacity of their engineers, enabling the same number of engineers to undertake more jobs in one day.

The Evolution Mobile software and PDA hand held computer are linked directly to the Works Orders scheduling module of the main Evolution financial accounting package. This allows key job information to be sent directly to engineers while they are out on the road. The need for excess travel between the office and the next site is therefore removed saving time that can otherwise be spent on further jobs.

Due to the integrated nature of Evolution, all data is automatically linked to relevant business processes. This allows real time reporting to take place; giving engineers access to up to the minute information on the next job, while managers and customers get real-time visibility on a jobs’ progress.

With a simple step by step interface on the PDA, Evolution Mobile enables the engineer and customer to sign for jobs once they are completed, creating an up to date, ongoing record of each job’s progress which automatically generates a timesheet for each engineer. This eliminates the need for engineers to re-key information into timesheets at the end of the week. Instead it can be drawn directly from the Works Orders module of Evolution, where it is stored once input to the PDA. This feature removes the administration time of chasing engineers for their timesheets and is instead immediately at the contractor’s fingertips ready for authorisation.

Evolution Mobile also cuts time out of the administrative processes involved with creating the relevant certificates and documentation once the engineer has completed a job. Configuring the PDA with a pre-defined set of questions in a survey style format enables the engineer to input all the relevant information while onsite. Such data can be used to create health and safety certificates, which can be stored within the job on Evolution, ready to be accessed at any time.

The use of Integrity Software’s new PDA system can be especially useful on jobs that are working to strict deadlines, such as local authority projects and social housing schemes. Due to the immediacy with which the engineer receives information, work can commence immediately once he arrives to site, helping to keep projects running on schedule.
