IRIS launch "The Trouble with KPIs"
IRIS, the UK’s largest privately owned software business, has announced the launch of a new white paper: "The Trouble with KPIs."
The Trouble with KPIs is a step-by-step guide to managing Key Performance Indicators. Designed to demystify some of the complexity surrounding KPIs and demonstrate how they could work for a range of businesses to bring about significant focus and change, this guide presents some simple ideas that will help organisations to use KPIs correctly, and as a result, manage their business in a more efficient manner.
Paul Sparkes, Product Director of the IRIS Accounting and Business Systems (ABS) division, said: “The ideas behind KPI’s are very powerful, and when used correctly, KPI reporting can bring about major changes within a business. However, as they have become more widely used focus has been lost in too many businesses it doesn’t refer to anything that is KEY, or anything that indicates business performance, but is just another word for a pile of random reports. We want to deliver ideas that will restore the power of KPI’s.”
The latest IRIS whitepaper is part of a series for guides for FDs, and brings together a range of ideas on how to implement controls and business processes to help make the changes needed to guide a company from a recession into a stronger market expected for 2010/11.
Mr Sparkes concluded: “If you are selective and strategic in your selection of KPIs you will be able to deliver the change your company needs. If you try to do too much you will simply get left behind. This guide is all about finding and maintaining focus. If you put in place systems that provide timely and accurate financial information on the key performance indicators of your business you can be confident about the decisions you make as you plan for the future. The recession won’t last forever so sorting out processes that deliver the most important changes now is a vital task for the FD.”
