Survey reveals technology chasm in fleet sector
Fleet drivers across the UK are being sent on money-wasting, fuel-squandering journeys because of inadequate telematics equipment.
A survey by Trimble MRM found 60 percent of fleet managers believe the best single way to reduce cost and under-performance is to reduce the number of unnecessary miles being driven.
“By accurately locating drivers and vehicles, fleet managers can optimise who handles each job,” says Andrew Yeoman, Managing Director of Trimble MRM Europe. “This may sound like an obvious use of technology but our survey revealed that many managers think the equipment they are using is not fit for purpose.
“Companies should be taking every step necessary to ensure economic stability and fleet managers have a great opportunity to make the most of the latest telematics equipment available to allow them to do this.”
Trimble MRM, the country’s leading supplier of corporate in-vehicle telematics technology, also found 85 percent of the 300 fleet managers polled believe using fuel more economically is their biggest challenge. Trimble’s market-leading technology monitors a vehicle’s fuel efficiency and allows fleet managers to determine which vehicle is in the best location to be routed to handle a job.
The survey also revealed more than half the managers questioned regard driver health and safety as an increasingly important challenge, with vehicle tracking technology becoming central to their management of this issue.
Trimble’s ground-breaking technology can also allow organizations to monitor how safely an employee is driving, with the data harnessed to create a driver profile.
The solution can also provide real-time feedback to the driver of unsafe manoeuvres, such as speed, braking and harsh turns, as well as offering a comprehensive picture for safety managers to accurately measure and mitigate fleet safety risks.
“Our technology can help organizations revolutionise the way their fleet employees drive, promoting economic, eco-friendly driving, while also safeguarding driver safety,” says Yeoman.
