Sarcophagus, providers of the online construction collaboration system "the-project.co.uk", claim to be the first UK company of their type to include unbreakable 128-bit SSL encryption as a standard feature for all clients and users. The new SSL version was publicly launched in May 2004 to a discrete audience at the Construction IT Alliance members meeting held in Dublin.
Information systems departments are now putting security at the top of their agenda following the recent proliferation of high profile hacker attacks. This concern has resulted in Sarcophagus taking the proactive step of introducing ultimate protection so even financial information can be shared without intrusion.
Graham Howarth, Chief Executive Officer of Sarcophagus said:"Speed of access and our intuitive approach is unique to our software, however, upgrading to 128-bit encryption can result in severe speed degradation. To prevent this we have upgraded all of our technologies to retain our system performance and market edge. Our users have not noticed any significant changes and we are confident that their information is now transferred with the same level of security as internet banks."
The need for greater security within the project extranet market is a continuous process with every provider trying to increase security without reducing system speed. Today, the most common form of SSL encryption on the Internet is 40-bit and this offers an acceptable level of security for many e-commerce transactions. 128-bit encryption is literally trillions of times stronger and is currently impenetrable.
