BIM Modeling: simplify the transition using legacy software
InterCAD Kft, a Hungarian software developer with engineering users in thirty countries, has released its AxisVM Version 8.3 BIM capable software package that allows engineers and architects to make 2D or 3D models from its graphic CAD modeler, import/export files from other CAD software in IFC, DXF, CIS/2 or DWG formats, and connect from within the model to outside programs or documents.
According to AxisVM Director of Marketing, Greg Hoback, many thousands of their users needed an integrated solution for linking the many 2D and tabular software programs they use to a BIM capable model and final report document. AxisVM v8.3 can connect the Building Information Model to the total building construction environment.
The dynamic link function allows the AxisVM BIM model to connect to any HTML address, even online. Typical examples of the links:
1. Link any node in the model to a paragraph in a specific design code
2. Open any outside software program
3. Connect specified details in the model to email, or telephone to request model specific assistance or inspection.
4. Link a concrete beam in the model to the rebar design detailing drawing
5. Link an opening in a wall to a specific PDF or .doc specification sheet for a window installation or manufacturer product specification page.
In addition to its professional structural analysis software versions, the company offers AxisVM-TV, a free trial version which has no time limits and includes the full capability to create BIM structural models, and the dynamic link function. Models designed have no size limitation, include steel, wood, concrete or aluminum materials and cross sections, can be printed and saved, exported to BIM software users as IFC files, and dynamically linked to the tables, documents or images created by any other software program. The AxisVM-TV program can be deployed across the enterprise as a model viewer/editor, with all of the model dynamic links available.
AxisVM software is compatible with IFC CAD files from Architectural Desktop, Revit, ArchiCAD, Design DATA, MicroStation Triforma, RAM CADstudio, VectorWorks and other IFC and CIS/2 based CAD files.
