The European project CE RFID (Coordinating European Efforts for Promoting the European RFID Value Chain) offers the possibility to actively participate by commenting the reports and their recommendations.
Prior to publishing its final reports on RFID standardisation and R&D policy the European project invites stakeholders to join the debate. The homepage of CE RFID (www.rfid-in-action.eu) provides access to the draft reports including the possibility to insert comments.
Recommendations for RFID standardisation
For the development of a true European RFID market it is necessary to support standardisation processes in the fields of radio regulations, air interfaces and tag data. Only a unification of pan-European regulations will allow the strengthening of the cooperation between different standardisation bodies and will hence foster the building of a truly European market. This is one of the recommendations of the CE RFID report on RFID standardisation. The main objectives of this report are the collection and analysis of all kinds of RFID standards. Topics of particular interest are: RFID frequencies and radio regulations, RFID communication standards, RFID data standards, RFID network standards, RFID safety standards, and RFID application standards. Experts and interested parties are invited to review the report and add their comments online at the CE RFID website.
Recommendations for RFID R&D Subsidy Programmes
As the analysis of current research subsidy programmes shows, RFID topics are not always adequately represented in Europe’s R&D landscape - with the notable exception of Germany and France. The present European R&D policy, as presented in the European research programme FP7, solicits structural bottom-up initiatives of all stakeholders to co-define focal areas for collaborative R&D and the technology platforms for implementation. This could be a unique chance to agree on RFID centric R&D and synchronise European and national efforts. Besides other measures, the CE RFID report on R&D policy recommends the creation of a European technology platform with an explicit focus on RFID.
Experts are invited to comment on the recommendations for RFID standardisation issues and R&D related topics by actively reviewing the draft reports. The reports are available at: www.rfid-in-action.eu/draftreports.
CE RFID is a Coordination Action funded by the European Commission within the 6th Framework Programme. CE RFID was launched in April 2006 by leading RFID users and vendors. Its main goal is to strengthen the European competitiveness in RFID in the context of the aims of the Lisbon strategy by providing recommendations for a European approach on RFID.
