Businesses are being warned to beware of ‘Vista by stealth’. Despite the fact that large numbers have no plans to move to the new Microsoft Vista operating system, many will be forced to rethink their plans for a Vista free zone. Microsoft’s reluctance to allow PC manufacturers to ship new PCs and laptops with anything other than its latest shiny operating system means that Vista will arrive in many businesses by stealth.
Paul Sparkes, IRIS Product Director, said: “A survey amongst Exchequer users has shown that a massive 59% have no immediate plans to move to Vista or to purchase Vista compatible PCs. However, calls to our customer support teams are already proving that Microsoft Vista is arriving through the back door for many businesses and IRIS is educating its customers to beware of Vista by stealth. Replacing just one broken machine could mean that they can tear up their carefully laid plans for a managed roll out and they will be forced into running Vista whether they want to or not.”
The results of the survey in full:
59% said they have no plans to move to Vista
18% said they would move in 1-6 months
3% said they would move in 7-12 months
20% in 12 months plus.
