National courier company Road Runners has implemented a state-of-the-art Web-based service that allows customers to book its express courier services and track packages via the Internet. By using NetDespatch web services integrated with a central management system, Road Runners has implemented one of the country's most advanced computerised booking and despatch systems.
The new system is based on despatch management software from DBS that integrates with NetDespatch web services. Road Runners has reported a 25% gain in efficiency, as well as service improvements since the system was implemented.
Enabling customers to book services via the company's website has given Road Runners an important advantage. These facilities are increasingly important, especially as many larger organizations are implementing electronic procurement system services that require staff to buy goods and services via an internal intranet portal.
The web booking services are also useful for operating nationwide services. Road Runners is part of the National Courier Association (NCA). Couriers around the country will also be able to access the NetDespatch web services, which provides a virtual courier despatch centre for booking collections or deliveries by partners in the vicinity.
"NetDespatch gives us a vital advantage through the provision of web booking and tracking. It is the future and as industry becomes more used to electronic trading, further gains in our own efficiency will result," said Mike McCartney, Managing Director of Road Runners.
