New partnership helps textiles firm roll out expansion plans

Ambitious UK flooring and fulfilment specialist, Melrose Textiles, has struck a new deal, setting it on the path to further growth.

The Bradford-based firm, which is a leading manufacturer and distributor of rugs and flooring products, recently began a partnership with warehouse management software expert, Access Group, as part of a drive towards greater efficiency and expansion into new markets.

Melrose was looking for a new system that would allow it to simplify processes and remove duplication at its warehouse on Hillam Road Industrial Estate, while supporting sales growth and future expansion to multiple sites.

Determined to automate as many processes as possible, while improving traceability and eliminating manual paper-based systems, Melrose Textiles deployed Access Delta, a warehouse management system (WMS).

Timing was crucial to the success of the project, as company owner, Andy Murphy explains: “We needed a rapidly-deployed solution that could be implemented into our operations without any costly or risky bespoke code development. As well as being simple to use, we wanted a system that could be phased in to limit disruption and risk to the business.

“Access Delta gives us real-time visibility and data, enabling us to streamline operations within the warehouse. We are already minimising the amount of paper produced, and time spent double-keying data, which means we are better able to provide a high quality of service to our customers.

“All this is enabling us to achieve our business expansion goals. At the moment, we’re predominantly an own-goods warehouse company – however, we’ve identified third-party logistics (3PL) as a significant growth driver. Delta will enable us to work across multiple, and often complex sites, which provides a great deal of reassurance for clients.”

Access Delta is also helping warehouse managers to make faster and better-informed decisions, while the integrated barcode scanning function enables teams to improve the speed and accuracy of processes like goods in and out, stock takes and replenishment, and pick-and-pack.

Zaeem Batavia, WMS specialist at Access Group, said: “Our experience working in own-goods and 3PL warehousing, and the fact that the software can be deployed in just a few weeks, with little disruption to the business, made Access Group the ideal partner for Melrose Textiles.

“A top priority for Andy and his team was flexibility – they needed a solution that integrated directly with their existing Sage 200 software and, importantly, could be scaled up in line with the company’s growth. The bespoke system they had previously developed had become a risk to the business, and they wanted to move to a widely-trusted product.

“Access Delta allows staff to view and update information on one central system, without having to continually open different spreadsheets.”
